With only RM80 return tickets via AirAsia, off to Medan for 5D4N...There are always pro and con in everything and nothings can beat the feeling to be at our own home&country...
What I like:
-Beautiful and cool Lake Toba, wish to spend more days there on Samosir Island, want to witness the sunrise and a clear view of Lake Toba under sunshine.. Toba means beautiful, Batak's word...
-The highland (Berastagi, Simarjunjung,Siantar) is still cool, similar to Cameron
-Got to know Batak's population
-Long list of fruit juices to try..e.g Sirsak, Alpokat, Martabe....
-Indonesia have interesting shortform or abbreviation, e.g SUMUT=Sumatera Utara, RM=Rumah Makan..their Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (known as S.B.Y, pronounced as Es-Be-Ye)
Something to take note..
-Tipping is a MUST, get familiar with it, treat it like 'Service Charge'..organize your shoes outside mosque,go toilet, carry your bag, each and every steps is accompanied with tipping..they'll ask if you give less :-)
-Cigarette ads is everywhere, and smokes lingering around you 360deg, even in air-con area..Bring your inhaler or maybe should consider wearing mask..
-Medan town is quite cramp and jammed at peak hour, since it 1 of major city of Indonesia
-We have Penang's driver attitude, but it's just nothing compared to Medan's driver
-Pretty tired with Nasi Minang/Padang, miss our version of Nasi Campur/Kandar
-Your travel agent won't tell you the real truth, they'll bring to high end shop/area first and the last is cheapest one... e.g just bought 'Medan Tshirt' with IDR20k after nego(IDR60k starting price) at Lake Toba/Berastagi, and equivalent shirt is IDR20k fixed price outside Istana Maimon. Wasted 30mins of negotiation...same goes to sourvenier, cakes, telekung, sarong....
But to my relief..no one mentioned about the SEA games football match between Malaysia and Indo, where they lose..Maybe because David Beckham is coming to town to match with their TIMNAS (team national)....
Total damage :
RM1k for 3* travel,chartered taxi..RM600 for tickets,trip,lodging,transport,entrance fee...the rest for foods and gifts & misc..
